Introduction of Valuable Fruit Trees

Irobland has a similar environment to the Mediterranean and Middle East regions. Many experts believe that grapes, olives, and Jatropha trees would thrive in this region. This would not only create an economic opportunity but also have a positive effect on restoration by helping with erosion control and restoration of shrubs and trees on abandoned private lands and community lands throughout hilly mountainous regions of Irob Highland. Some households already have a tree or two of vine plants in their homes where they thrive without needing much attention. There are some piloting of the Jatropha introduced. Expanding on this project would have a dual effect of reducing land erosion in those very steep farms and also benefiting the communities from fruit production and marketing.
